Beliefs: The Secret Lock on Our Path to Change

"We've all been there, haven't we? Sitting with a plan in hand, filled with determination and enthusiasm to finally change our lives for the better. Yet, despite all our efforts and attempts, it sometimes seems impossible. Do you know why? Often, the secret lock to our inability to change is our inner world - beliefs.



What are beliefs?

Beliefs are internal perceptions that govern us and influence our view of the world, our reactions, and decisions. These perceptions are often formed based on our experiences, upbringing, culture, and interactions with others. They can be positive or negative, opening doors to unlimited possibilities or confining us to limiting beliefs.


How do beliefs hinder us in making changes?

When we want to change something in our lives, we often encounter our own limiting beliefs that hold us back. For example, if we believe that we're not good enough, intelligent enough, or deserving of love and success, it can prevent us from taking risks, making changes, or deserving a better life. Many of these beliefs are inherited and learned from early childhood, and we often take them for granted. You know it... 'It's just the way it is... that's how it's done... etc.'


How to work with beliefs and change them?

  1. Recognize your beliefs. Start by reflecting on what beliefs govern you. Are they positive or negative? Are they supportive or limiting?

  2. Challenge and examine. Examine whether your beliefs are true and relevant or if they're just holding you back and limiting you.

  3. Replace negative beliefs with positive ones. Look for opportunities to replace negative, limiting beliefs with positive and supportive ones.

  4. Practice positive thinking. Maintain a positive attitude and reflect on what you're doing well.Seek support and motivation. Talk about your beliefs with confidants, friends, or professional counsellors. Sharing your feelings and experiences can be liberating and provide you with new perspectives and advice.


Beliefs have incredible power to influence our lives and define our ability to change and grow. It's important to be aware of this process and actively work on transforming our limiting beliefs into supportive and empowering ones. When we manage to change our beliefs, we open the doors to unlimited possibilities, new opportunities, and a life full of joy, love, and success that we deserve.
